2019 Technology Trends to Look Out for in Grocery

Posted by Lindsay Valenty on August 2, 2019 at 8:30 AM

Progressive Grocer just released its findings on the 2019 Grocery Tech Trends Study —a comprehensive list that covers everything from Revenue Strategy to Advanced Inventory Management.

Today’s grocer is making upgrades/replacements for existing systems to manage inventory, and more. However, the grocer of tomorrow will be investing in serving their customers with tailored messaging utilizing Location-Based Marketing, CRM/Personalization, and Shopper Tracking.

Also, 73% of survey respondents identified that Advancing Digital Strategies to seize new business was one of their core goals over the next 18 months. Coming in second with 58% of the vote was Developing Personalized Marketing Capabilities.

Due to the current financial climate, grocers face many business challenges. Some of these include:

• The tight labor market

• Price competition (with Big Box retailers)

• Increasing their margins/profits

• Amazon (their innovations and acquisitions to name a few)

• Lacking rich data on their customers

Historically, grocers have been slow to adopt digital technology, but enthusiasm for what it can do to their market has grown. Omnichannel marketing offers a host of ways grocers can enhance the buyer experience. Research shows that this method of marketing is already starting to pay off: grocers report that 17% of total sales are due to the digital efforts they’re employing.

Progressive Grocer reports that over the next two years, grocers plan to incorporate strategic enhancements to maximize their digital efforts. These efforts include:

• Remarketing (34%)

• Digital coupons (29%)

• E-commerce platforms (28%)

• CRM/Personalization (28%)

What can we infer from all of this data? In a nutshell, grocers want to take advantage of the digital marketplace, but for one reason or another are slow to convert. We can help with that.

eCorner Market, our online marketing platform designed specifically for small- to mid-sized independent grocers, utilizes the tools you need to compete against Big Box retailers.

The eCorner Market platform includes a responsive website with customizable promotion blocks so you can easily display fresh, engaging content for new and existing customers. This website incorporates an interactive weekly ad page to include your existing print circulars—a $5,000 value.

With our digital package, we use remessaging to display your content on other sites and highlight your offerings to encourage them to head to the store. We also use geofencing (location-based marketing) to target your competitors and message their customers with your latest offerings to entice them to purchase. Lastly, we use lookalike modeling to create a list of prospective customers with shopping habits similar to your existing clientele and target them with informative branded display ads.

Technology is going to continue to advance in the years ahead: don’t get left behind. Take part in our special introductory offer—sign up for a 12-month contract and your first 30 days are free! The offer ends on 10/31/19.
