Progressive Grocer just released its findings on the 2019 Grocery Tech Trends Study —a comprehensive list that covers everything from Revenue Strategy to Advanced Inventory Management.
Today’s grocer is making upgrades/replacements for existing systems to manage inventory, and more. However, the grocer of tomorrow will be investing in serving their customers with tailored messaging utilizing Location-Based Marketing, CRM/Personalization, and Shopper Tracking.
Also, 73% of survey respondents identified that Advancing Digital Strategies to seize new business was one of their core goals over the next 18 months. Coming in second with 58% of the vote was Developing Personalized Marketing Capabilities.
Due to the current financial climate, grocers face many business challenges. Some of these include:
• The tight labor market
• Price competition (with Big Box retailers)
• Increasing their margins/profits
• Amazon (their innovations and acquisitions to name a few)
• Lacking rich data on their customers
Historically, grocers have been slow to adopt digital technology, but enthusiasm for what it can do to their market has grown. Omnichannel marketing offers a host of ways grocers can enhance the buyer experience. Research shows that this method of marketing is already starting to pay off: grocers report that 17% of total sales are due to the digital efforts they’re employing.
Progressive Grocer reports that over the next two years, grocers plan to incorporate strategic enhancements to maximize their digital efforts. These efforts include:
• Remarketing (34%)
• Digital coupons (29%)
• E-commerce platforms (28%)
• CRM/Personalization (28%)
What can we infer from all of this data? In a nutshell, grocers want to take advantage of the digital marketplace, but for one reason or another are slow to convert. We can help with that.
